nobody sees us
we move unseen
through blades of grass
roots of trees, nettles and reeds

nobody stops us
we move swiftly, silently,
effortlessly on currents of air
unseen by humans

nobody betrays us
we are friends with everyone
we care about everyone
we love everyone

we move the small grains
so they can grow anew
replenishing the earth
replacing what man has destroyed

you will never see or hear us
we live in the shadows, in the dark
taking care of nature
so you don’t have too…

Two haiku poems written after a long run on the moors last week. One reflects the point my leg disappeared down a bog and the other the long climb from Ponden Reservoir back up to Alcomden Stones.

earth sucks me in

body goes back to nature

grey sky turns blue

tarmac turns to gravel

turns to grass, turns to mud

i live amongst reeds

The moon grows cold
The earth grows old
Wind blows dust away

The harvest of the moon
Is gone so soon
An owl collects moonlight

The bright eyes of the moon
Showed up the worlds end
As the watership went down

The lunar face
Reflected back
The lunacy of man

Moon rises
Earth bathes in silver
Life is precious

my mother and father

would plant vegetables and flowers

in the garden or the allotment

anywhere where earth could be dug

digging through different

shades of mud and clay

planting dull, drab bulbs

that transform into colourful

shapely vegetables too good to eat

tiny seeds left deep underground

turn into flowers creating a paradise

in a corner of nowhere

my mother and father

planted all the colours

seen on earth and beyond

reproducing them perfectly

as nature intended

how i wish i could go back

and watch them dig and plant

all those bulbs and seeds

and learn from their gardening ways

and reproduce nature

as they once did…

The rainbow reflected back from

Deep inside the vault of the dank barrel

That had lain dormant since time

Immemorial. Lost for all eternity, save

For the old man on the hill

Watching the world spinning

Round and round and round

Seeing all

Hearing all

Knowing all

Saying nothing

Embedded in a maze of roots and shoots and

Branches, consuming his very being

As he becomes earth like, becomes as

One with nature, feeling her pain, her joy,

Reflecting on the rainbow

That tells the story of a time

When the black blood of the earth

Reached every corner of every country

Every nook and cranny of every continent

Roaming free, occasional jumps of joy

Until sticks drank it all for themselves

Save for one barrel, a memory hidden away

From all to see, save for the old man

Watching rainbows reflected

Back from when

Time began
