i found my paradise
when i escaped from
my self imposed exile
within four blank walls
my paradise was over
the thin black line of
tarmac meandering
through the bleak
yorkshire moorland
that dominates this
world leading to a
valley of lush green
fields crissed crossed
by a never ending
maze of tracks and
trails worn down by
hundreds of years of
footsteps and hooves
leading anywhere and
everywhere but where
you want to go. some
will lose you and lead
you on a dance that
will have you doubting
your own sanity. others
will take you so close
to heaven you swear
you can hear angels
sing songs that have
your ears dancing in
the clouds. this paradise
gives up its secrets ever
so slowly but you will
never know them all
so don’t go looking
for them. enjoy the
ones you find and
make the most of
this beautiful paradise

the sound of colour

i hear in colour
rainbows of sounds
voices are blue
the wind is red
birds are green
my mind is filled
with colours merging and
coming together in a
multicoloured blend of noise
then they rupture, divide,
disperse back to where
they came from and i am
left with the white
noise of life

you take away warmth
cloudless blue skies
fields of flowers
awash with animals
trees heavy with leaves
providing shelter for birds
you replace them
with browns, greys and reds
clouds filled with rain
mists obscuring moors
streams flowing fast
deep reams of mud
seasons bring and take
so many different feelings,
emotions and experiences
be grateful for all of them
and cherish the memories
they bring to you

my mother and father
would plant vegetables and flowers
digging through different
shades of mud and clay
dull blubs produced
colourful vetetables
tiny seeds
flowers of beauty
my mother and father
planted all the colours
of the earth
reproduced them
in all their splendour
how i wish
i could go back
learn from them
reproduce nature
as they once did

autumn running

last week it was warm and dry
no wind, no rain, no mud
i ran free with ease
leaping over rocks
flying down embankments
soaring over hills
splashing through streams

in a blink summer has gone
and autumn is here
today the air is cooler
a lighter shade of blue
puddles of mud appear
the wind is coming back
together with cold, crisp air

soon blues will be replaced with greys
clear skies with overwhelming darkness
dry, hard trails with
thick layers of mud
puddles will litter the paths
as leaves dance in the wind
and the autumnal opera begins
